"A novel is like a marriage; a short story like an affair."

There's some truth to that, I confess. And not so much because a short story is ...well... short. I love the format because it allows me to experiment with characters, plots, and settings to see if they'll hold up in a novel. I wouldn't necessarily call them "affairs," but I would call it "dating." Some of the stories on this page were initially written as a prologue, and in other cases, an epilogue to my novels. Don't worry-- I'll tell you which ones. But no one walked away with a broken heart. :)

Some of these stories are only available as ebooks, but 15 are in Nice Girl Does Noir which is available in ebook, paperback, and audiobook.
